BGYC is for anyone in Barns Green who are in school years 7 to 11 (age 11/12 to 16). All are welcome & we look forward to seeing you there.

It has been a very busy time at the youth club so far this year.

Some of the highlights at meetings have been:-

• Pancakes evening. We ate a lot and cooked a lot - though it has to be said amongst the older members there was too much of girls cooking and boys eating - playing table tennis was far more interesting than being in the kitchen. Great fun and not too messy - next time muffins?

One of the major events this year was our first ever outing to Spectrum Ice Rink in Guildford. With the trip over subscribed an excited group of 22 young people and 4 adults headed off. At last, an aim of the club to offer an activity away from the village had been realised but little did we know we would return two members short! Whilst most enjoyed themselves, some found the skates a little painful and gave up early, two through no thought or desire of their own had to give up (one after just 30 seconds) as visits to the local A&E became necessary. The first, having left a bloody mess on the ice, required seven stitches to his forehead and the other enjoyed (!) an overnight stay in hospital to have his broken wrist re-positioned. We think we might go ten pin bowling next time!

As well as the special activities like the ones named above we have available at most meetings a pool table, football table, table-tennis, board games, Wii, PS2 and four internet connected laptops.

The group has a membership of nearly forty at present, with an average attendance of the twice months meetings of around twenty five. We have an excellent youth worker in Anne Hodgson with a very strong group of support volunteers from the village.

From September 2009 the youth club will be meetings weekly. We will be using the David Francis room as well as the main hall and this will be a chill zone for years 10 and above - hopefully we will have a TV and DVD player installed by then.
